Abstract
A Common Whitethroat Sylvia communis imitates, in the main part of the song, a Eurasian Blackcap S. atricapilla during four breeding seasons. From 2016 to 2019, a male Common Whitethroat imitated, in the main part of the song, regularly the so-called «Leier song» of a Eurasian Blackcap in the canton of Berne. The male with the conspicuous song, which was probably always the same individual and apparently never paired in all years, moved from Rüti bei Büren to a 2.1 km distant hedgerow landscape near Meinisberg during the 2018 breeding season and was very mobile. At Meinisberg, the maximum distance between the different singing places, which often remained occupied for several days, was up to 1.4 km.
