Abstract
Migration and resting behaviour of the Northern Ring Ouzel Turdus torquatus torquatus in the Grindenschwarzwald (Baden-Württemberg). Northern Ring Ouzels breed on the British Isles and in Fennoscandia, the wintering areas are in southern Spain and in North Africa. From 2012 to 2018, every year large numbers of resting Northern Ring Ouzels were recorded during migration in spring and autumn on the mountain tops of the Northern Black Forest (Grindenschwarzwald). Migration towards the breeding sites took place from the end of March until the end of April, peaking in the middle of April, and migration towards the wintering areas from the beginning of September until the beginning of November, peaking from the end of September to mid-October. These periods are consistent with observations from other studies. During spring, Northern Ring Ouzels used mainly the first snowless places on ski slopes and on the mountain heath land (Grinden) for stopover; during autumn, open areas rich in berries were preferred.
